At Holywell, we want our pupils to be ready, respectful, responsible and resilient members of the current and future digital communities they will experience. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal role in the lives of our pupils. Therefore, we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively.
Our computing curriculum follows the three key areas of Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Information Technology.
We have defined the key characteristics of Computing at Holywell as:
- To CODE - develop their knowledge of computer systems, Computer Science and computational thinking.
- To CONNECT - Helping pupils to understand there is always a choice when using technology. The ability to connect with others safely and respectfully, understanding the need to act within the law and with moral and ethical integrity.
- To COMMUNICATE - The ability to communicate ideas well by using applications and devices throughout the curriculum.
- To COLLECT - The ability to collect, organise and manipulate data effectively.
At Holywell, Computing is taught explicitly during Computing sessions and implicitly via the use of information communication technology within other areas of the curriculum. We want our pupils to be fluent with a range of tools to best express their understanding and hope by UKS2 children have the independence and confidence to choose the best tool to fulfil the task and challenge.
ESAFETY
However our children access computing, whether it is at school on Chromebooks or tablets or at home on phones, tablets or game consoles, they know they have a right and a responsibility to stay safe online. Children in all classes take part in regular ESafety sessions throughout the year as well as ESafety workshops held for KS2 children. We are active participants in ESafety Week and Anti-Bullying Week every year.

Aspirations for The Future
Pupils develop an understanding of how subjects and specific skills are linked to future jobs.
